a healing sound
What is Sound Healing?
Transform stress and experience deep peace through the sounds of healing instruments.
Sound healing is energy medicine and is used as a complimentary modality for wellbeing and healing. As 80% of most illnesses are caused by underlying stress Sound Healing can bring you to a place of peace and stillness.
Sound Healing is an old but new practice. Known to be used in many cultures for thousands of years it has numerous benefits such as treating anxiety, reducing body aches and pains and transforming the soul. Sound Healing is used today to readdress energetic imbalances caused by trauma and dis-ease through the vibrations of specific instruments. Sound Healing is an excellent way of achieving overall balance and it has a flow on effect whereby a session can lead to further changes in other areas of your life.
Who am I?
My name is Marisa Allen and I hold a Diploma of Integral Sound Healing completed through the Sound Healing Academy, Cornwall, England and I am a member of the Sound Healers Association.
Since the late 1990's I have been on 'the path', informally practicing Advaita Vedanta (non duality) and self inquiry and am a lifelong student of all forms of yoga, learning asana through Iyenga style.
My own journey of healing came about through mental health as I experienced complex post traumatic stress. This lead me to psychology, yoga, zazen meditation, self inquiry, somatic art therapy, osteopathy, and equine assisted learning. These are all wonderful modalities that have helped me and eventually I thought 'well, I am passionate about music and sound, AND I love being around calm, grounded people, what can I do with that?' and this led me to the field of Sound Healing.
I give clients the tools to attend to their own healing. I do not advocate a client to stop taking any prescribed medicines or go against their doctors or health professionals advice.
I have a Bachelor of Communications and played violin for over 35 years and have been singing for 15 years, professionally releasing numerous albums of original songs, touring and collaborating with diverse musicians and sound artists.
Meditation and Yoga Nidra
I am a fully qualified Meditation and Yoga Nidra teacher and studied through Zama Yoga Institute.
I began formal meditation practice in 2011 at the Rongton Buddhist Center, New Market, Brisbane training in the Shamatha or Calm Abiding Technique.
Meditation sessions are Trauma Sensitive informed. Meditation can excerbate existing trauma in practitioners and I aim to create safe ways for people to practise meditation.
Yoga Nidra means yogic sleep. 1 hour of yoga nidra has the benfits of approximately 4 hours of sleep. Yoga Nidra works by taking you into an Alpha or Theta State of pure rest. Often when we we relax we think of watching TV or a movie, reading the paper or having a coffee. This is more distraction than relaxation. In Yoga Nidra we use techniques such as rotation of consciousness, visualization, counting the breath and creating a sankalpa or intention. Yoga Nidra is conducted lying down with eyes closed.
Yoga Nidra is a wonderful restorative practise and when combined with sound healing instruments can be healing to the body and mind. It is also beneficial for memory and learning new things.
Meditation sessions are based around the Shamatha or calm abiding practise that is similar to a zazen sitting practise. I offer various types of meditations from zazen to metta or compassion practise to walking meditations, guided meditations and silent sittings as well as mindfulness practises.
As a practioner of sound therapy, I provide the treatments, resources, and tools for you to bring healing to yourself. I work to create a safe and compassionate environment for you to discover what will help you lead a balanced and more relaxed life.
These are clinical sessions where I work with you, the client, to explore any physical, mental, emotional, spiritual or soul level challenges that can be addressed energetically through sound. I use Tibetan bowls, the human voice, crystal singing bowls, shamanic drums, medicinal tuning forks and many smaller instruments. When deciding to attend a 1-2-1 sound healing session I advise that you have an intention or decision that you would like to address in the session. Sound healing can be beneficial for major life changes as well as relaxation.
For 2 or more people. Sound Immersions are conducted with clients lying down or sitting and are gently immersed in sounds. I use similar instruments as in the 1-2-1 sessions. The beauty of this practice is that you don't have to do anything but close your eyes and relax. Perfect for deep rest and calm.
1 hour sessions including biofield assessment and sound treatment. Recommended 4 sessions for greatest benefit.
